Hi! I'm Ellen Baker

From the time I was six years old, I dreamed of being a novelist. 

I wrote and wrote and wrote, read and read and read. By the time I was 30, I had written four novels, and the fourth one was the charm. I got a literary agent (through a query letter) and a two-book deal with Random House. KEEPING THE HOUSE was published in 2007 and I GAVE MY HEART TO KNOW THIS in 2011. 

I began writing another novel -- but it didn't sell. I rewrote it eight times. It still didn't sell. I set it aside and, realizing that my dream had never changed, I wrote a new novel. I got a new literary agent (again through querying) and, in Winter 2024, my new novel, THE HIDDEN LIFE OF CECILY LARSON was published by Mariner Books. A top book of the season, it became  featured as an IndieNext pick, Goodreads buzziest book, People magazine pick, Woman's World book club, and more! 

During the decade-plus of rewrites, I also undertook a personal journey to heal the depression I'd suffered from since 1991. I began pursuing my passions for psychology and energy healing and became a certified mindset coach, gathering the knowledge and tools I needed to learn how to have a happier, healthier, more abundant outlook and life than I’d ever had before -- no matter what external challenges I was facing.

I also became a freelance editor, working with clients 1:1 to help them overcome any technical or mindset pitfalls they were facing as they wrote their novels. I began to notice that they’d been missing certain foundational knowledge, which, if they’d had before they began writing, would’ve saved them a ton of time and heartache.
